CENTRAL UNIVERSITY STUDENTS PREACH PEACE THE IEC WAY

Team Connect is a group of level 400 Communication students from the prestigious Central University Miotso campus. As part of their Media and Peace course, they embarked on a campaign aimed at promoting peace among the youth before, during and after the 2020 elections in December using the IEC method.

  The group made of up of eight members include Mr Dauda Ali Ayamba , Ms Hagar Asamoah , Ms Jennifer Bosompim , Ms Edmund Adu , Mr Anthony Attachie , Ms Aba Acquah , Mr Dotsey Redeemer and Ms Wendy Sackey who was the leader. Speaking in an interview with Wendy, she stated that effective communication using IEC which means Information, education and communication,is the best strategy because it has been tried and tested worldwide.

They used materials with written statements to inform, educate and communicate to the youth in and around their school towards a peaceful election this year.

          As the 2020 general elections approaches, they believe it is their duty as youth in the academic and professional enclave especially to play their parts in the promotion of peace. Knowing very well that the youth of this country can easily be manipulated to disrupt peace during elections which can lead to war and chaos. This is why it is important for us to alert the youth population to be conscious of  the effect of peace.

      

            They also had a peace walk around Dawhenya, Miotso, Prampram and its environs , gave away t shirts and other souvenirs and also engaged the youth in one on one conversations . Catchy key messages like, the ballot box is better than the bullet, we can’t fix stupid but we can vote it out, democracy is not a spectator sport and in an election, one needs both hope and audacity were on display.

This is a good step and a perfect example that all schools should follow and imitate. We need nothing but Peace. 2020 elections must be Peaceful!!
