Politics and democracy in Ghana has come of age but i am not sure it has ever experienced what it about to in the 2020 general elections. For the first time in our country`s history a man of God (pastor) is contesting for the seat of president. It has become obvious that in recent years, pastors have become increasingly vocal and their political affiliations no more a secret.
Politics by its nature is a really messy area that often can grow into a lot of hatred that, most religious leaders probably would be happy to avoid and to remain not interested or involved in politics but this is totally different in Ghana. Where it is common to hear men of God prophesying mostly in favor of one political party or another.
Not long ago, a popular pastor in Ghana and founder of Life Assembly Worship Center, Rev. Christian Kwabena Andrews, aka (Osofo Kyiri Abosom) outdoored his own political party Ghana Union Movement.
The man of God feels it is about time for him to contribute to the nation-building or democratic shaping of our country’s development especially the well being of the citizens of Ghana and peaceful co-existence with the whole world.
Another shocking revelation is that the man of God selected another man of God, the founder of International God’s Way International Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim as his running mate for Ghana Union Movement (GUM) party ahead of election 2020. This is the first time two pastors are going to vie for the presidency as flagbearer and running mate respectively.
The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana presented the final certificate of registration to the Ghana Union Movement (GUM) and the Power Union Party (PUP), both new political parties seeking to contest in the 2020 presidential and parliamentary polls.
The two received the certificates on Thursday, 21 November 2019, following the successful completion of the processes required to acquire the authorisation.
The Chairperson of the EC, Mrs Jean Mensa, who handed over the certificate to the leadership of GUM .
The move seals their participation in the upcoming 2020 elections as they join Ghana’s electoral train for a showdown next year. 2020 elections indeed will be one of a kind.
